AUBURN, KS — Auburn social worker and legislative candidate Sarah Coats has made it onto the cover of TIME Magazine this week as one of the “Avengers,” or first-time women candidates for office after the 2016 election cycle.
“I’m really excited. Still can’t believe its real. I’m going to buy copies for my mom and my dad,” said Coats.
In December 2016, Sarah Coats exposed the Department of Children & Families hotline reporting backlog for abused Kansas children. Since then, she has filed to run for house legislative district 54 and has served on the Foster Care and Family Preservation Committee of the Child Welfare Systems Task Force.
“Its really important to take this work to the next level,” Coats explained. “My candidacy is about safety, transparency, and hard work. And district 54 is ready to have a legislator who listens and works.”
District 54 includes portions of Shawnee, Douglas, and Osage Counties and is currently represented by Republican Ken Corbet. The TIME Magazine issue is dated January 29, 2018, and is numbered Volume 191 No 3. The headshot of Sarah Coats used on the cover was taken by Ka-Nor Geeston.
